Cute Child – Lamiya Memorial for Congenital Anomaly

Posted by: tmhossain in Untagged  on

Lamiya Memorial Children Fund (LMCF) was established back in 2006 with the goal to help the under previledged children in Bangladesh who need medical attention. In 2007 we have commuinicated with the Pediatric Surgery Unit in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) through an expatriate organization called SpaandanB to reach out to the children who need medical assistance in Bangladesh but cannot bear the cost. DMCH may be the last resort for the vast majority of people who have no other way to pay for medical needs apart from relying on the public health care system. The cost of medical service is free or nominial in the public hospitals and DMCH is the largest public medical facility in Bangladesh. LMCF extended it's help by donating money to procure basic medical needs (like bandage, some medicine) for the children. LMCF also provided the pediatric surgery unit with a optial cystoscope to perform complex surgeries with minimal incision. Dr. Abdul Hanif Tablu managed the LMCF project in Dhaka along with Mr. Ahmed Junaed Nasir. Recently LMCF started another initiative with DMCH pediatric surgery unit. Due to the long queue and lack of Surgery facilities in the public hospitals, many children have to wait for a long time to get a surgery scheduled. Majority of these children are suffering from congenital anomaly and a surgery can alleviate the quality of their lives and in some cases save their lives as well. With the help of the DMCH pediatric surgeon, LMCH has established a project ‘’Cute Child – Lamiya Memorial for Congenital Anomaly’’ to operate the critical congenital anomaly cases outside the public hospital. The private facilities are hired at a much discounted rate and doctors perform these surgeries for a small honorarium. On an average a surgery cost LMCF only about US $130. This project is also managed by Dr. Abdul Hanif Tablu and Mr. Ahmed Junaed Nasir. This will be an ongoing project for LMCF. Initially we started with simple congenital anomalies like Hernias and treatment was done with outpatient surgery but gradually we have worked on more complex scenarios like Anorectal Malformation or Hypospadias. Some of these anomanlies can even cause death if not treated with surgery.
